Empirical foundation of valence using Aldrich–McKelvey scaling

چکیده

This paper uses data from the 2004 pre-election survey of American National Election Study to test empirically different ways incorporating a valence parameter into Downsian utility function. We call particular attention problem interpersonal incomparability responses liberal-conservative scale, and use Aldrich–McKelvey’s pathbreaking method obtain accurate distances between respondents candidates, key regressors. find that function most supported by empirical evidence, intensity function, is one which permits make better predictions for presidential election. also consider counterfactual analyses wherein we if Bush, candidate with highest valence, has dominant strategies would have insured him majority popular vote. According theory, it known does not such distribution voters in policy space too heterogenous. Nevertheless, show sufficiently homogenous Bush strategies.

Empirical Foundation of Space and Time

I will sketch a possible way of empirical/operational definition of space and time tags of physical events, without logical or operational circularities and with a minimal number of conventional elements. As it turns out, the task is not trivial; and the analysis of the problem leads to a few surprising conclusions.

Prostate Helical Tomotherapy: A semi-empirical estimation of the scaling factor based on 2D approximating field

Background: In Helical Tomotherapy (HT), the scaling factor (SF) is the time in seconds that each leaf viewing a target would need to be open to deliver the prescribed dose. The SF is patient-specific and is used to calculate the rotational period of the gantry, and the total treatment time (TTT) of the HT. The SF is generally difficult to estimate. Currently, it takes about one hour t...

A linear-scaling self-consistent generalization of the multistate empirical valence bond method for multiple excess protons in aqueous systems.

An extension to the multistate empirical valence bond (MS-EVB) method is presented in this paper that is capable of treating multiple excess protons within the context of molecular-dynamics simulation. The computational cost of the method scales linearly with respect to the number of excess protons. Calculations for a 0.44 M HCl systems are carried out to illustrate the multiproton extension of...

A Foundation for Empirical Software Engineering

The goal of this paper is to lay a foundation for rigorous empirical software engineering. I do this by introducing several theories and their models. I first present an abstract theory TM about theories and models and related processes. I then apply TM to itself, yielding MTM, a theory and model about TM. These two theories provide a unified approach to design disciplines. I then provide 4 mod...

Using Multidimensional Scaling for Assessment Economic Development of Regions

Addressing socio-economic development issues are strategic and most important for any country. Multidimensional statistical analysis methods, including comprehensive index assessment, have been successfully used to address this challenge, but they donchr('39')t cover all aspects of development, leaving some gap in the development of multidimensional metrics. The purpose of the study is to const...
